Inverters

OK, I am definately not an electronics geek. But, I think I need an inverter for my houseboat to run the fridge and maybe the ceiling fan and a light or two. So, I don't need anything too powerful. What should I buy? How many and what kind of batteries will I need and how in the world do I hook this stuff up?
