Russell Co. to build public restrooms at old Ali.1 site?

**no official publications reporting this that I can find but**

I hear Russell Co. Fiscal Court voted to build new public restrooms at the old Alligator 1 site for a cost of near $18,000 with half being paid by matching funds. County workers will be doing most of the work.

Why?

I use the new ramp often. I could think of many ways to spend $18K that might have more purpose, like some floating day docks for boarding passengers after launching and maybe a little ongoing maintenance and clean-up of the new and old ramps when necessary. A trash can or two wouldn't hurt either. Probably a lot less money, too.

Knowing government like I do, I wonder how much good this will do when they don't bother to spend $18 to maintain toilet paper in the facility.

I second this thought for sure!
Would sure like to some docks for boat launching.

Co-Captain Slippery and I also agree. A small dock that is in more than 4 foot of water would be money better spent than bathrooms.

My post wasnt entirely correct, the county will be applying for the restrooms. Sorry.

from LakerCountry.com;

The county will be applying for a “Land and Water Conservation” grant, which if approved, will be used to construct new bathroom facilities at what was formerly Alligator Dock #1. The Fiscal Court hopes to lease that property from the Corp of Engineers for public use. New, public bathroom facilities will cost approximately $18,000. The county’s 50% match for grant funds can come from “in kind contributions” such as using county equipment and employee labor on the project.

This is a good thing, a dock would be a good thing as well...

But why is it so important to find fault with the project before it is even begun? I would think the biggest concern would be the vandals and jerks who will try to distroy or ruin it for the rest of the people who may need the facility. Just like those who would leave their boats tied to the docks (should we get them) whilst they run an errand or go for lunch and such.

Lets wait and see what is provided before condeming the provider.

A loading dock isn't a problem if you call the Corr & ask to put one in. I do not think they will pay for LOADIND Docks. Also someone must be responibile to let it in/out as the water rises/drops. Anyone tied up to a loading/unloading dock could be fined or the area could lose such a privelage.
Bathrooms @ a ramp. Who will maintain them, clean them, stock them with basic supplies?

Exactly--Maybe the folks responsible for awarding the grant will view this thread. Considering some very small amount of the grant will be paid by me, my vote is to give it to some place that will appreciate it---obviously not here.

This sort of negativity and attitude has become very popular by members of this site for the past year to 18 months. I am beginning to remember why I had stopped posting.

I am a very optimistic person. I take 'nothing' for granted. However, storing my boat up on the hill, YES, a few docks would sure be appreciated! Hmmmmm....

I've been told by what seems to be a reliable source, since the bathrooms are becoming a reality, that there is a three year plan. The area has been taken over by the county and the first year the state/county are putting in the public bathrooms, the next summer there will be a community dock and the third summer this area will no longer be county run and there will be a small number of private slips there again. I think it sounds like a plan!:)

Not negativity, just feedback...

The new ramp is awesome at Ali 1.

I put a 30 foot cruiser in and out of there all last season. After, we put in, my wife would drive around to Ali2 and hop on the boat there.

And then reverse the whole program when coming back.

Workable, but not great.

Hence my initial reaction, I would postively enjoy a pick-up dock and it would add much more to my boating day than a restroom.

Sorry, if it looked negative, but as a regular user of this ramp, I felt it merited mention, if any improvements are under consideration. Restrooms would be great, but I suggest boarding docks beforehand, as it would have a greater impact for the users of this ramp.

And a security light please, it's very dark down there when the sun goes down. We used the old piece of dock last year at the poker run, it worked but that climb up the hill was a b*t#h. A new dock would be nice.
