SO does the USS New Jersey, First Commissioned in 1943, still floating today...........

So does the USS Missouri, first commissioned in 1944, still floating today and will be for a long time. She had 13 1/2 inch steel armor plate for a hull. Don't think the "Pride of the Cumberland" has a hull like that.

I've seen the "Pride of the Cumberland" up close and have actually been on the "Mighty Mo"...trust me, the "Pride" is no "Mighty Mo". The USS Missouri and the New Jersey actually had valuable missions... and they fulfilled it well.

LOL, here we go again. People going back and fouth about the chipper.

Well here is my yearly take on it.

You can get new impellers and that won't kill you if you hit them before you see them and can go around them...

Try hitting a log running WFO and see how that feels on a seadoo or a boat.

I'm not sure if I have heard of someone's boat sinking because of woodchips or a tuber being killed by them etc.

But all of the above happen from logs. Sure I would rather they did not discharge the chips in the lake and used the barge properly but I'd much rather have that then LOGs.

So what's new about that modern mechanical invention being at Conley Bottom??? Hasn't it been here for a few years???

Totally agree with what your saying E... but the "Pride" does so little in the grand sceme of things its a joke. It can't possibly make a huge difference in the drift wood problem. Its a drop in the proverbial bucket. Then add the chipper problem to the equation and well... its a waste of taxpayer's dollars, IMO. :)

I was personally told by a COE employee that YES they do read the forum occasionally but they can not respond publicly as representatives of the COE or even mention the COE if they do post.

I'll grant you it doesn't do the damage that a log could do, but if you rode from GHD to Lees Ford and got that crap in your impeller at about Fishing Creek, wouldn't you be pretty PO'ed???:mad: I really don't care to swim it to shore, find a ride to Grider, pull a trailer back ETC ETC!!! The da-- thing is a royal PITA!! Been there done that, lucky I got the dang chip out of my impeller.

They need to take the thing over to the pier 1 ramp at Conley. There was crap in front of the ramp about 30 yards out.

Thanks. I really don't have a problem with it during the winter when the chips from the chipper do really matter because I'm not taking a seadoo out but when there is a ton of boats out lets not chip the wood into the water. Seems like a hard concept.

I spent 6 months cruising with the Jersey in Beruit, I got to spend the night on her after delivering mail one afternoon. I also was able to see her bomb the dogsh*t out of the Syrians on a mountain behind the airport in Beruit, she lobbed over 250 16" rounds at the diaper heads over I think it was 2 days. That was about 30-40 days before we brought everyone home.

Why wouldn't you just call Marine Assist and continue to enjoy your day on the lake? :P

I know it is a nuisance but better than deadly. And I agree why don't they do the chippin in the winter and spring when seadoos really don't get out... And why not just pull to the shore and shoot the chips in the summer. If it was ran every day it really could make a difference. If I didn't believe so I would not have pulled some of the big ones I have pulled out of the water onto my platform and gotten them out of the way. One was in the entrance to Conley a few summers ago. The dock dudes looked at me weird as I handed it off to them but I know that 4' x 12" piece of wood could have really ruined a boat or someone. One piece at a time helps IMO.

I think they meant to say the "Joke Of Cumberland". Nothing but a photo op for Hal Rogers.

Har! Har! Don't make fun of that chipper, cause you insult me when you do cause my old houseboat almost looked like that and at least the chipper run well. We cut oar holes in the sides of the old boat to let guests get a little exercise as they rowed us out to a cove(anywhere outside the no wake zone). Seriously though, I think I could do with the chips much better than I could do with a sunk boat, or a severely damaged boat. We are pretty fortunate on Beaver Creek as most of the flotsam passes us by on its way down. We get almost no trash.

The driftwood & etc is floating into the coves. A sure sign of spring. Had one heck of a driftwood bon-fire last week. Boating season is just around the corner & we're ready to go to Harmon. Just as soon as we can clear us a path to get there... One log @ a time....:):);)

Don't forget the chips can also go into boat intakes such as AC/Heat seacocks and right into the strainers which will eventually plug up and if your AC/Heat is on that can cause damage or ruin the AC/Heat unit. Very expensive! :(

The chipper idea if used on a much grander scale and removed the chips would be a wonderful idea. But, the surface of this lake is a bit big for this one chipper. It reminds me of trying to draw down the lake with a wet vac.
