LOL, Yep they did. Sorry to tell you though that even thought the main one was appointed by Obama they were a republican appointee if my memory
serves correct. (of course don't forget I am a registered Democrat before you say I am Dem hatin)
Sorry to step on the politics I promise I mean nothing by it and it is just gentle ribbing with DJ. Please don't read anything in to it. I would
argue with him the sky is brown..
I would rather see it be another Ford plant to go with the other two if I had a vote on it. And I guess we all do by what we buy. And DJ in the
truck market they don't come anywhere near any of the 3... Trust me I have seen too many friends give them a try (on here lately) and watched them
not stack up to the others when they hit the ruts on the farm with a load. But that is another thread.

No doubt, in the Truck market they do not. I know that. I've had two GMC 2500HD's. Toyota couldn't touch it at the time and I don't think they
do now.

WASHINGTON - Federal safety officials said they will look into complaints from Toyota Corolla drivers about difficulty with the steering on their
vehicles.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received about 80 complaints from drivers of 2009 and 2010 Corollas.
Many say their cars can wander when they drive on the highway, making it hard to stay in lanes.
NHTSA says it will determine if a formal safety investigation is warranted.
But agency officials also stress that it is standard procedure to review the tens of thousands of driver complaints they get every year on a wide
range of vehicles.
Toyota's safety issues are under intense scrutiny due to recalls over gas pedal problems. The company also recalled some of its Prius hybrids last
night. | THIS ONE IS HUSH HUSH for GM
WASHINGTON – Federal regulators have opened an investigation into complaints that power steering systems in the Chevrolet Cobalt can fail, making it
more difficult to control the car.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says there are 1,132 complaints about the Cobalt's electric power steering, including reports of
eleven accidents and one injury.
The preliminary review covers about 905,000 Cobalts in the model years from 2005 to 2009.
A majority of the complaints have come in the past six months. Some drivers said they couldn't stay in their traffic lane when steering became
difficult.

Hey shouldn't this one go in the other thread you started about recalls? Let's keep on the subject of Toyota. By the way, isn't there another
recall today involving steering in corolla's? The only hush hush I've heard is coming outta Japan. It should be interseting how they're treated on
Capital Hill in the Congressional Hearings. Do you think they'll fly in on corporate jets (like Big 3) or are they taking the slow boat from...well
Japan.

If memory serves the Cobalt electronic assist unit is made by Denso.
If Denso made it before 1949 you can blame Toyota for this too.

I for one get what Fryman is saying here and has been advocating over the past week or so. The media is on a witch hunt. That doesn't excuse Toyota
or any other manufacturer from wrong doings, but it is hard to argue that the media doesn't smell blood here.

That's what was said by some when the Tiger Woods scandal started. Last I heard it was 17 or so witches.
I'm not against Toyota--I just wish the American public would open their eyes and tear themselves away from Dancing with the Stars or Sunday night
Football for long enough to learn what is going on. This lack of knowledge is what is tearing the country apart.
Anything that is too good probably is --- OJ, Tiger, Toyota you make the list.
Please just open your eyes, research and learn---don't be brain washed.
I think I may have just heard something from one of the outlets that will change the dimension of this Toyota fiasco. Will post when sure.

I wish the American public would tear themselves away from the above and not be marching soldiers for the agenda of the media and look at the facts as

I also understand Fryman's point. If you make a product with thousands of moving parts sometimes there is going to be a problem with one of those
parts, it's just the odds catching up with you.
That being said I'm not sure this is a media witch hunt. For way too long the media treated Toyota as a company that could do no wrong. Now that the
media is bringing up some problems it seems Toyota is being picked on.
Had the media reported the "facts" all along and left the media bias out this would not seem to be such a big deal. All companies have good
components and bad.
Toyota will survive this but their "do no wrong image" is gone and they become just another car company.

I agree with you Six Pack.....wow that even sounds good for other reasons. But yeah that was my thought when GM, Chryser, Ford, and others were going
thru their tough times and getting slammed by the media. Toyota and Honda were treated with kid gloves. Now the gloves are off (the media) and now at
first it is unfair. Sounds very familiar and trust me I know what a shutdown of a auto industry can do to a local economy. GM and Dayton parted ways
recently and Dayton (OH) is still reeling and has not fully felt the domino effect that is occuring. Sad.........
And I also agree with Laker53 everyone should do their own research and conclusion, too many folks just react to a media that is biased.....

It's not just the auto industry. I was raised in Dayton and lived there for thirty years. I know I am living in the past but...........
Industry gone from that area:
NCR 25,000 employess at it's peak
5 GM plants 20,000 employees
Dayton Tire and Rubber 1500 employees
Dayton Press 1200 employees
Chrysler Plant 1000 employees
I am sure there are many more. Not sure how an area survives with a job loss like that. Just so many burgers you can flip.....

Yep Six Pack, there are many more. But GM hit the hardest as far as the domino effect. NCR has just really started and has not officially shut down
all the way yet. The area will continue it's decline until other industries are found or relocate here. Many many empty commercial buildings.
Another big one that left back in 2006 was Mead....another smaller one is Cooper Tire....

Funny how the media suddenly can fix all their efforts to something else when politics get screwed up.

Toyota recalls 8,000 2010 Tacoma trucks
Problem with drive shaft could cause vehicle to lose control
updated 2 hours, 59 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - Toyota is recalling about 8,000 Tacoma pickup trucks from the 2010 model year to fix a problem with the front drive shaft that could
cause the vehicle to lose control.
The automaker told dealers Friday that a crack could develop that could lead to the front driveshaft separating and falling from the truck, causing
the vehicle to lose control.
While small in number, the recall is the latest issued by Toyota, which has called back 8.5 million vehicles worldwide for faulty gas pedals and
brakes. The recall involves 4-wheel drive Tacomas that were built from mid-December 2009 to early February 2010.

I'm truly a Ford guy. I bought my first, a 55 Ford, and my current vehicles are a Ranger, Taurus, and an Escape. In between, Bronco II, another
Ranger, two Explorers, E-150 Custom van, and a Contour, 250HD p/u, and a Ford station Wagon (forgot model), plus a Ford mini-van. In Europe at
various times, I drove a VW, MGB, and a Volvo. My only non-Ford cars in the Conus were a 68 Camaro and 71 Corvette, my younger days. The only
problem I have had with any Ford was the transmissions on the Bronco II (my wife really loved this vehicle), which I found out were French made, and
paint on the 250. Ford replaced the transmissions and repainted the p/u at their cost. I drive my vehicles many miles, currently 210k on my Taurus.
I will probably always be a Ford guy because of my experience with them. But, I really think there are not many differences these days between most
of the manufacturers; they use many similar or same parts from the subs, as well as assembly processes. If you go into one plant, I don't think you
will see many differences from another plant. I may be wrong but I have been in GM, Ford, and Toyota plants at various times. The subs are the real
issue with quality. The only concern I have is the warranty backup, as it can get real expensive for the manufacturers and the subs are quite smaller
operations, many international, and can't stand the costs. They end up closing. You just take your chances, stay on top of preventive maintenance,
and have a good friend as a car dealer.

The Ford Escape and some Nissan's share the same yoke as the Tacoma but none of them are in recall.

Yes they said Dana made the driveshaft---but is this more blame game????
Which yoke?? The one at the differential is probably made by the gearcase manufacturer???
Make more commercials muddy the water blame someone else--probably the driver.
Just more Japanese culture.
One more opinion.
